Gerson and Jenny in Valencia, Spain - Tips on Planning a Styled Shoot Abroad
Oh Valencia, I fell in love with this place mostly because of the guidance of Gerson and Jenny. They took me on a personal tour of the city they grew up in, told me about the history, brought me to get the best horchata, chatted with me about what it was like when they were kids. I can still taste the horchata and hear the laughs of these two beautiful souls. Here are a few favorite photos from our time together as well as few tips on how to plan a styled shoot like this abroad based on what I learned during this experience:
- Find local creatives to collaborate with. The temptation can be to pack ALL THE THINGS, but I think it's important when you're traveling to pack light but also get to know the creative community where you are going. Reach out to people via social media, through friends, networking events to find someone local where you are going to work with! You won't regret the relationships you build when you collaborate with others abroad.
- Bring talent with you too! There is something so exciting about traveling on a creative adventure with friends! I recommend choosing one or two other vendors to travel alongside you and be a part of the shoot. You will create wonderful memories with them and something beautiful at the same time!
- Go with the flow. Things can change at a moments notice, so just be prepared to think on your feet, reach out to contacts last minute for help, and just go with whatever happens. If it rains on your scheduled shoot day, go with it. If details aren't coming together, get creative and find inspiration in the place you are exploring.
There are so many more, but let's start with those three simple tips :)! Enjoy!
