Newborn Photography FAQs - Atlanta, Georgia Newborn Photography
I get a lot of questions about my newborn photography style as well as just newborn photography in general! For this blog post, I've pulled together a few of the most common questions and answers for you (and I've paired this post with one of my favorite little newborns I got to photograph this year, baby Anna Claire). If you have any other questions you want to ask me about newborn photography, feel free to comment here or send me an
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHY STYLE?
My newborn photography style is one of classic portraiture, but with a documentary approach. My style could be classified as “lifestyle newborn photography.”
OKAY COOL, WHAT IS LIFESTYLE NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHY?
It transcends just focusing on the newborn and takes a deeper dive into the connection between baby and loved ones, the home that they are being welcomed into, and the new world around them. It is classic portraiture of the everyday, making beautiful images of a baby feeding, of a sibling snuggling, or of mom/dad changing baby's clothes.
SO, WHAT CAMERA DO YOU SHOOT WITH?
I shoot with Canon 5D Mark IIIs and have a range of lenses at different focal lengths to help capture your little one in an artistic, dynamic way. My favorites are the
. I have started venturing into film photography as well, so you may see the film camera on occasion!
HOW OLD DOES BABY HAVE TO BE?
Whoever told the world that newborn images MUST be done within the first 7-10 days of a baby's life didn't tell the whole story. That would be true for a specific genre of newborn photography and that is classic, posed newborn portraiture. For lifestyle sessions, it is important to know that baby can be as old as 3 months. I never want parents to feel like they "missed the boat" or "lost their chance" to get sweet images of their newborn. Lifestyle newborn photography affords flexibility on that 7-10 age range because the goal of the session is to capture The important thing is that they are in your arms and they are loved, there is no age limit on love.
HOW FAR IN ADVANCE DO WE NEED TO BOOK YOUR SERVICES?
We advise clients to book their newborn photographer three months before the due date to ensure availability. Maternity sessions should be scheduled 32-28 weeks of pregnancy. If baby is already here, please contact me within two days of baby being born so we can make sure you are able to get on the calendar!
Those are just a few answers to the questions I get most often! Now for the real reason you are here, sweet baby Anna Claire!
